The first Thursday of each month, some girls and I head to a local restaurant, Carmela's (70th and Pioneers, Lincoln, NE) for a wine tasting by "The Italian Vine". Last night we sampled four wines from the Ca la Bionda winery as well as a Marcato Soave Colli Scaligeri and Conti di Colloredo Meis Pinot Noir. These are my observations (though I'm only beginning to learn about wine):
The Marcato - a white - not memorable. Maybe because it was the first we tasted, maybe because it just wasn't all that memorable. (and I forgot a pen to take notes) Retail $17.50
Conti Di Colloredo Mels Pinot Noir - was very nice. Smooth, mild, and very easy to drink. Retail $15
The rest of the 4 wines we sampled were from Ca la Bionda winery.
The Valpolicella Classico - The aroma was wonderful - very fruity, and had hints of cherry. As far as drinkability - I liked it. It was not my favorite of the evening. I really enjoyed the smell of it more than the taste. I couldn't stop smelling it. Retail $18
The "Casal Vegri" Valpoloicella Superiore - I'm sorry, I don't remember this one either (I swear, next month I'll take notes) I think I remember liking it quite a bit. Retail $28
The "Malavoglia" Ripasso - I bought this one. It wasn't my absolute favorite, but, the price point was considerably better than my favorite... Retail $30
And last, but definitely not least, was everyone's favorite, I think...
The "Amarone Classico" - The flavor was so rich. Apparently the process of making an Amarone provides an extremely concentrated juice from the grapes because they dry the grapes first before crushing them. The alcohol content was higher in this wine too. I believe 15%. Retail: $50
